Service Lane Cut-throughs

Melbourne has over 250km of highway with Service Lanes running parallel to them. Many of these lanes could be utilised to create a low-stress cycling network at a very low cost over a very rapid time frame. By utilising the simple techniques of using the Service Lanes, Widening Footpaths, painting of sharrows and lanes, building cut-throughs or providing short links to join paths together, the safe cycling network could be rapidly expanded at minimal cost. The map below shows some of the corridors that could be built in a very rapid timeframe.
